Chemist

The primary function of the job is to maintain and document all lab and all chemical solutions in order to produce circuit boards. This includes but is not limited to test and set-up all chemical tanks in accordance with the processes prescribed by the suppliers. Ensure Assistant is cross trained in all aspects of the lab and different chemical processes such as plating, etching, desmearing, etc. Ensure all information is documented on a day to day basis. Responsible for the Waste Treatment neutralization and treatment of spent chemicals so that they can be disposed of safely and legally in accordance with established manufacturing/waste treatment procedures/processes. Also responsible for the training of all Waste Treatment employees. Ensure all records, procedures, and formulas are documented on a regular basis. Ensure all effluent meets the specifications of all rules and regulations according to the equipment on premises. Must keep abreast of all analytical instruments used in the lab.

RESPONSIBILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH PERFORMING THE JOB

• Maintains plating and other chemical solutions to the require specifications/concentrations in each bath/tank on a daily basis, changes baths as required
• Analyze solutions and inputs record keeping on the computer on a daily basis
• Makes up and document solutions for lab and tanks on a as need basis
• Observes safety rules especially for handling chemicals.
• Checks to ensure all tanks are labeled properly
• Checks MSDS to ensure all required MSDS are available for all Plating Processes and Waste Treatment
• Follow all company and legislative requirements
• Required participation in the scheduling and capture of R&D

SKILL/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PEFORM THE JOB

• Requires DEGREE IN CHEMISTRY OR EQUIVALENT
• A mechanical aptitude is essential
• 3-4 years PCB manufacturing experience required
• Good reading, writing, and arithmetic abilities are required in reading work orders, calculating chemical addition for different processes, set up and operate machines
• Must be able to cooperate and work effectively with others to ensure efficient and smooth operations and proper documentation

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB

• Must be able to respond to tight production deadlines during regular and peak periods and to last minute demands and requirements; many short-term competing deadlines.
• Frequent periods of intense concentration is required when handling hazardous chemicals, calculating and adding correct amounts to tanks, creating new formulas for the baths and documenting same.

• Work involves a high degree of visual attention involving constant attention to detail in day-to-day handling and documentation of the baths.
• Occasionally required to work overtime
