HR Manager

Responsible for the human resources function of the company including determining pay and benefit entitlements. Plans and carries out policies relating to all phases of human resources activity. Ensures compliance with legislation.


• Recruits, interviews, and determines short list of candidates to fill vacant positions; plans, and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
• Keeps record of insurance coverage and personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, disciplinary actions and terminations.
• Compose and writes training documents, employee handbook etc
• Conducts exit interviews
• Responsible for ensuring the confidentiality of personnel records, group insurance records, payroll information and legal matters.
• Designs procedures and policies to reflect company plans and goals and external legislation; creates policy manuals; corresponds with legal counsel and outside agencies
• Administers and monitors the Performance Appraisal System
• Responsible for training existing staff and managers regarding legislative issues
• Maintains MSDS for the company
• Handles all employment and labour legal activity; acts as liaison and resources person in this regard
• Chair of the Health and Safety Committee
• Develops Health and Safety training material
• Responsible for advising and counseling the management team on legal issues as well as on disciplinary action to be taken.
• Works extremely closely with legal counsel regarding and employee legal issues.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned


• Requires a community college diploma in Human Resources with 1-3 years of relevant practical experience.
• Continuous upgrading in regards to legislative issues
• Must have excellent reading and writing skills to understand government reports and forms. Must be computer literate and proficient in creating clear, accurate and detailed reports, forms, spreadsheet and letters using various software
• Good communication and interpersonal skills are required to communicate effectively and clearly with staff members, give talks and lectures; counsel staff and management, must be polite and courteous, and possess tact and judgement in dealing with employees and outside sources.
• Must have a solid knowledge of labour law, WSIB, OHSA and employment practices good organizational skills to plan and coordinate day’s activities to ensure that work is completed accurately and within deadlines.


• Duties can vary throughout each day as can the physical and mental efforts required to accomplish the tasks; they can range from sitting at a desk/computer preparing schedules and reports to intense negotiations
• Manual dexterity, speed, accuracy and hand-eye coordination is required when using computer
• Frequent periods of intense concentration and constant attention to detail are required in checking and verifying payroll information and reports, often with numerous interruptions and competing demands.
• Listening and mental attentiveness is required when obtaining information from employees and outside sources.
• Subject to stress resulting from providing service to many different people or departments under simultaneous deadlines and from last minute rushes imposed by management.
• Is subject to all types of deadlines, both regular and predictable and those resulting from special requests or during peak periods; must be able to respond quickly to resolve problems and to internally determine requirements involving numerous competing and often conflicting deadlines.
